Special Programs & Fitness Classes
Welcome to the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre’s current offerings of programs, swimming and fitness classes. Classes fill up quickly, so register early to reserve your spot! For more popular classes, there may be times when we need to start a waitlist.

Current restrictions do not allow for drop-in activities. All participation must be pre-booked. The pool schedule will be updated as restrictions ease.
Mermaid School
Come enjoy this 8 lesson session where you will be introduced to the basics of swimming and safety with a mono-fin. At the end of this session, you and your fellow mermaids and mermen will perform a fin-tastic routine.
Prerequisites
Ability to swim 25 metres (without monofin) and tread water for 1 minute

Adult Lessons & Teen Group Lessons
Great for adults and teens who want to learn to swim or continue to develop their swimming skills. These classes are for people of all swim abilities. Each registered participant will be provided with a Red Cross Journal to keep track of their progress, and set goals for both swimming and water safety.

Teen Stroke Improvement

Swim Patrol
Developing individual fitness levels to meet a timed 100 metre swim and 350 metre workout.
Water proficiency skills include swims with clothes, ready position, foot first and head first surface dives.
Demonstrating an ability to conduct a primary assessment and initiating emergency medical services are included as first aid skills. Victim recognition and throwing assists are other key elements of the program.

Enhances capability in the water, including stride entry, underwater forward and backward somersaults, lifesaving eggbeater kick and increased fitness levels to meet a 200 metre timed swim. Rescue skills involve an increased skill level in Airway, Breathing, and Circulation first aid basics, victim recognition and non-contact rescues.

An excellent preparation for the Bronze Medallion award, Star Patrol demands good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgment. Participants will:
- Complete 600 metre workouts and a 300 metre timed swim
- Develop lifesaving and first aid skills
- Further refine front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke over 100 metre each

Water Fitness Classes
Low Impact Water Fitness
Our low impact water fitness class is a senior-geared class that helps to develop and maintain flexibility and basic movement by using the water to improve overall total body strength and endurance, with emphasis on improving the stability and functional strength of the core.
Water Fitness
Are you looking to get into shape but hate to sweat and have joints that cannot handle lots of hard impact? Then do we have a program for you! Working out in the water helps reduce the impact on your joints by adding buoyancy to your body. Our water fitness classes will help get you in shape by developing your cardiovascular and muscle strength, as well as your flexibility through a large variety of moves.
Aqua Zumba®️
Aqua Zumba®️ is perfect for those looking to make a splash by adding a low-impact, high energy aquatic exercise to their fitness routine, Aqua Zumba®️ blends the Zumba®️ philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss!
Volunteer Program
Lifeguards In Training (LIT) is a volunteer program for youths aged 12 to 15 years who are interested in becoming a lifeguard/swim instructor. This program will provide an opportunity for youth to work with a lifeguard/instructor on deck and in the pool. Volunteers will also earn credits towards their advanced course.
