To celebrate the coming of spring and support local business, the City of Lacombe is allowing on-street patios to begin opening April 1, 2021 – a month earlier than the planned May 1 opening.
The on-street patio policy was adopted in Summer 2020 to ensure consistent guidelines for interested applicants and accommodate ongoing public health restrictions, limiting in-house dining at local restaurants. The policy allowed local restaurants to expand their patronage without adding any public health risk to the community.
“Given the ongoing nature of the pandemic, the early accommodation of on-street patios allows our local businesses to weather the economic impact. I know I speak on behalf of Council when I say I look forward to seeing our residents enjoying these patios along with everything summer in Lacombe has to offer,” Mayor Grant Creasey said.
Lacombe City Council adopted the policy to support the development, expansion, and retention of businesses located within the community. The on-street patio Policy establishes a framework for the application, revie, and patios' approvals to be located on a road or a public sidewalk.
Businesses interested in applying to have an on-street patio can contact the Planning and Development at 403-782-1264 for further information about the application process.
