Lacombe, Alberta (April 25, 2022) – The Government of Alberta has awarded the City of Lacombe/Lacombe County partnership an Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) grant for the Functional Plan of the South Ring Road Connector.
The ACP grant will cover 100 percent of the project costs up to $200,000, and there is no requirement for the municipality to provide matching funds.
“Council is thrilled to partner with the Government of Alberta on the future of transportation in Lacombe” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “The South Ring Road Connector is a critical development for alleviating future traffic concerns, and this plan will ensure this future road meets the needs of our growing community.”
The ACP funding received formal Council approval at their April 25 Regular Meeting, allowing City staff to move on to the next stage of the project.
City Administration will work with their counterparts in Lacombe County to secure an engineering consultant by the end of 2022 to lead the function planning process.
The City received letters of support for this project from the Minister of Municipal Affairs Ric McIver, and Minister of Environment and Parks, Jason Nixon.
“Council would like to thank the Government of Alberta for their ongoing support on this project,” Creasey said. “Partnering with the province and our neighbours from Lacombe County will ensure this project meets the needs of all parties involved.”
The grant deadline to complete the Functional Plan is in Q1 2024.
