Welcome to the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre's current offerings of programs, swimming and fitness classes. Classes fill up quickly, so register early to reserve your spot! For more popular classes, there may be times when we need to start a wait list.

Junior Lifeguard Club (JLC)Canadian Swim Patrol: Rookie, Ranger, Star Patrol
JLC program is for all youth between the ages of 8 to 15 years, interested in active living and having serious fun. Club members are encouraged to develop skills based on personal bests in swimming, lifesaving, fitness, knowledge, leadership and team work. This program provides high activity challenges in an energetic "club" environment, both on deck and in the pool. Friends and family members can join together even if they are of different ages and abilities. Members may also be introduced to competitive lifesaving activities.
The Canadian Swim Patrol offers participants a chance to go beyond the basic swim levels. This program provides participants with an opportunity to begin development of basic water rescue and first aid skills.
Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills both as individuals and with partners. They learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and develop Water Smart® confidence as well as the lifesaving skills needed to be their own personal lifeguard.
Rescuers learn tows, carries, and defence and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim.
Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is the prerequisite for all advanced training programs, including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification.
National Lifeguard – PoolAquatic Emergency Care
Prevention of emergency situations, and the timely and effective resolution of emergencies prepares lifeguards to fulfill this role as professional facilitators of safe, enjoyable aquatics in a pool setting.
Provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of First Aid and CPR, as well as skills specific to emergencies in an aquatic setting.
Assistant Water Safety InstructorWater fitness classes
Teaches candidates foundational instructional skills, such as teaching methods; learning styles; physical principles; progressions; communication; safety supervision; and feedback. This certification allows the Assistant Water Safety Instructor to teach Red Cross Swim lessons under the supervision of a Water Safety Instructor. This course is also the prerequisite for the Water Safety Instructor Course.
Water Safety Instructor
The Water Safety Instructor Course focuses on planning and teaching the Red Cross Swim continuum, instructional emergency response skills, and instructional techniques specific to our programs. The certification issued allows candidates to teach all the Red Cross Swim programs.
Standard First Aid
A comprehensive two-day course offering First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements, or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. Includes the latest First Aid and CPR guidelines.
Low impactWater fitness
Our low impact water fitness class is a senior-geared class that helps to develop and maintain flexibility and basic movement by using the water to improve overall total body strength and endurance, with emphasis on improving the stability and functional strength of the core.
Are you looking to get into shape but hate to sweat and have joints that cannot handle lots of hard impact? Then do we have a program for you! Working out in the water helps reduce impact on your joints by adding buoyancy to your body. Our water fitness classes will help get you in shape by developing your cardiovascular and muscle strength, as well as your flexibility through a large variety of moves.
Mom & Baby Fitness
A fitness program for new moms to come and shed those baby pounds with your baby in the pool. We create workouts incorporating your baby to create more resistance, and to assist in the development of your muscles.
Leaders In Training (LIT)
A volunteer program for youths aged 12 to 15 years who are interested in becoming a lifeguard/water instructor. This program will provide an opportunity for youth to work with a lifeguard/instructor on deck and in the pool. Volunteers will also earn credits towards their advanced course.
