Planning and Development Services are currently working on a number of major initiatives/plans to benefit the community.
- Secondary Suite Initiative: The Secondary Suite Initiative was undertaken to deliver alternative and affordable housing options to residents which meet the Alberta Building Code. The initiative coincided with further guidance and regulations on secondary suites contained within the Land Use Bylaw.
- Public Consultation Policy: To ensure that residents are involved in decisions made by the City Planning and Development Service department.
- Downtown Area Redevelopment and Urban Design Plan (DARP) Implementation: The Downtown Area Redevelopment and Urban Design Plan (DARP) was adopted in 2013. Since the plan was adopted, the City has identified a number of ways to implement the recommendations of the Plan. The majority of these initiatives are captured in the Implementation Plan, approved by Council in 2014. Other initiatives include launching parklets, promoting a storefront enhancement program and working to deliver design guidelines for new development in the downtown.
