The City of Lacombe and Lacombe County currently have an adopted Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP). The original plan was adopted in 1993 and was last updated in 2007. The City and County are working together to undertake a review and update to the Intermunicipal Development Plan, and you are invited to participate.
The current IDP (which is being updated) can be found online for viewing.

What is an IDP?
An IDP is a plan that is developed between neighbouring municipalities and has a set boundary. The document outlines future land uses, policies and objectives, which the municipalities have agreed upon. The Plan helps establish policies for cooperation, development, and land uses.
Who Does it Affect?
An IDP affects those property owners whose lands are located within the IDP boundary. The IDP provides the property owners with appropriate land uses and development options for their land based on their proximity to existing residential, industrial, agricultural or commercial uses; environmental features; and proximity to major transportation routes. The IDP helps ensure that future development can be integrated into existing neighbourhoods and will work alongside established land uses.
The City of Lacombe, in partnership with Lacombe County, have hired Stantec Consulting to undertake an update of the IDP. We are looking to update the IDP boundary; determine appropriate land uses for the area; set out development standards for new neighbourhoods and establish concepts for an integrated trail system, transportation network, servicing and open space network.
The Plan will be undertaken through the remainder of 2015, with a goal that the Plan be adopted by both municipalities in the summer of 2016.
How can I get involved?
The IDP update includes numerous opportunities for the public to get involved and help us set our goals for the Plan. These opportunities will be posted on this website closer to the date on which they occur.
As consultation sessions are held or new information released, we will update this section. Please click on each item/link for more details.
