Municipal facilities closed in response to COVID-19 Pandemic
Lacombe, Alberta (March 16, 2020) – In light of the Government of Alberta’s updated response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the City of Lacombe has made the difficult decision to close, pending further notice:
- Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex
- Lacombe Memorial Centre, including the Mary C Moore Public Library
- Public access to the Lacombe Fire Hall
- Public access to the Public Works Building
Please note that credits and refunds will be given for any disrupted City programs or bookings. Details are being worked out presently; stay tuned for further information.
"This decision was not taken lightly; however, the health and safety of our community is paramount,” said Mayor Grant Creasey. “I realize that this is a stressful time for all of us, and that many people have questions. I want you all to know that the City of Lacombe is well prepared to act as required for the best possible outcomes. We have plans in place that ensure the ongoing operations of important City services continue in a safe, methodical and timely manner.”
“Although City Hall remains open, we’re encouraging people to access our services in other ways – taxes and utility bills can be paid online, permits can be processed electronically, and our staff are just a phone call away,” said Chief Administrative Officer Matthew Goudy. “Rest assured that the critical functions of the municipality like emergency services, water, and garbage collection are currently unaffected, and contingency plans are in place to make sure the City’s business carries on as usual. Please monitor the Province of Alberta’s guidance on COVID-19, and continue to make wise choices.”
“In addition to the adjustments made to our organization internally, we remain in contact with Provincial health authorities, who are coordinating the response to this pandemic,” said Mayor Creasey. “We will continue to be vigilant in providing services important to your daily life. In the meantime, I would encourage you to remain calm and do your part to ensure we remain safe and healthy. We are all in this together, and a cooperative, common-sense approach will serve us well in the days ahead.”
