PUBLIC NOTICE: Responsible dog ownership
Responsible dog ownership is an important part of maintaining a happy, healthy animal and avoiding doggy disputes with neighbours. There are a few obligations you have as a dog owner to be considerate of your neighbours and protect your beloved pet.
Dogs must always be on a leash no longer than two metres (six feet) when out in public. They are not allowed to be free unless in a designated off-leash area like the Len Thompson Off-leash Dog Park, or on your property. Dogs must be under control in designated off-leash areas; they must be in sight of their owners and respond to commands. Please remember to pick up after your dog.
Cleaning up after your dog isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s the law! Owners have to deal with their dogs’ poop constantly, whether it’s cleaning up the yard or picking it up on a walk. You are responsible to pick up after your dog and dispose of the droppings in a garbage container. Carry bags with you to pick-up after your dog whenever you are away from home.
The fine for failing to scoop up your dog's poop starts at $100. You can review the full list of offences and fines in Schedule B of the Dog Control Bylaw #265 at http://www.lacombe.ca/home/showdocument?id=1074.
