2017 Main Street Project construction contracts awarded
Lacombe, Alberta (April 10, 2017) – Council yesterday directed City administration to enter into a unit rate construction contract for the 2017 Main Street Improvements project with Pidherney’s at a cost of $5,595,587 + GST as presented.
“The 2017 Capital Budget includes $6.75 million for this project,” said Mayor Steve Christie. “Recent cost estimates presented to Council have closely involved the contractor in order to reflect market unit pricing, including five percent contingency, professional services, one percent for art on eligible infrastructure, and communications and marketing costs.”
Council also directed Administration to enter into a contract with Stantec Consulting for construction and post-construction professional services at cost of $335,983+GST as presented, and with Parkland Geo for geotechnical testing services at a cost of $62,195 + GST as presented.
The construction monitoring professional services includes a higher provisional allowance for stakeholder/business coordination and full-time inspection by a senior inspector. In an effort to maintain accessibility and enhance stakeholder relations with downtown businesses and contractors, the Engineering Services manager will work out of temporary offices in the former municipal police station building (beside the fire hall) one or two days a week.
“The online project information hub has been updated with the latest project and construction information,” said Engineering Services Manager Jordan Thompson. “Temporary signage has been placed around the downtown and along major roads to highlight the information hub, and to remind the public that businesses are open and accessible during construction. Public communications will continue through the media, on social media via direct e-mail as construction progresses.”
Construction is scheduled to commence on April 24 and is expected to run through to the end of October 2017. First, asphalt milling will be carried out for the whole construction area, and will involve rolling road closures. Crews will then begin Stage 1 of the project by closing 50 Avenue from 50 Street to Highway 2A.
