Local children injured in motor vehicle collision
Lacombe, Alberta (February 13, 2017) - At approximately 6:26 p.m. on February 11, Lacombe Police were notified of a motor vehicle collision involving one vehicle and two children on a sled.
Further investigation revealed that the accident had occurred at approximately 5 p.m. A vehicle was driving along the roadway in Parkland Acres Trailer Park when two young children using a sled to slide down a snow hill onto the roadway came over the hill into the path of the vehicle and were struck by the vehicle.
Both children were transported to the Lacombe Hospital. The 8-year-old received minor injuries, and was released after receiving medical attention. The 6-year-old had more significant injures, and as a result was transported to an Edmonton hospital via STARS.
An update received on February 13 indicates that the 6-year-old remains in hospital with non life-threatening injuries and should be released in the next few days.
Police say that poor visibility was a contributing factor in this collision as the snow hill and sledding area were obscured by large metal garbage bins and trees.
